Cruise tours offer an in-depth look at America's last unspoiled frontier. They combine a cruise of the spectacular Inside Passage with a land tour to the interior of Alaska or Canada that typically includes travel by motor coach, a train excursion in domed rail cars, and stays in wilderness lodges. Denali National Park is the most visited destination on land tours of Alaska while the Canadian Rockies are a favorite on Canada tours.
Alaska Cruise & Alaska Tour
On an Alaska cruise & Alaska tour, you have the option of sailing a northbound or southbound cruise itinerary. Northbound itineraries typically begin with a 3-night cruise departing Vancouver and ending in Skagway, where the land portion of your vacation begins. If you are traveling a long distance, you may decide that this type of cruise tour works better for you, allowing plenty of time to unwind on the cruise before beginning the busy land portion of your trip.
On a southbound itinerary, you will begin your vacation with the land portion followed by a 4-night cruise. You will fly into Anchorage and visit Alaska and Canada’s interior then travel to Skagway for your cruise to Vancouver. Southbound itineraries tend to be more popular with tourists who prefer the fast-paced schedule of a tour at the beginning of their trip, so they can spend the rest of their time relaxing.
Alaska Cruise & Canada Tour
An Alaska cruise & Canada tour may include a land tour to the Yukon or the Canadian Rockies. Tours to the Yukon also visit the interior of Alaska. On tours to the Canadian Rockies, you will travel by train on Rocky Mountaineer Railtours through pristine wilderness and may visit Banff and Jasper National Parks, Lake Louise, and the cities of Vancouver, Kamloops and Calgary. The land tour can precede or follow a 3- to 7-night Alaska cruise.
The cruise tour season lasts from May through September and cruise tours last from 9 to 14 nights. You can find the most affordable rates for cruise tours in May and September, the off-peak periods.
